NAIA Region III Championship

Luke Vermeer is the overall leader after day one of the 2008 Region III Men's Golf Championships played at Elmwood Golf Course in Sioux Falls, S.D. The sophomore from Sioux Center shot a two-under 70 (36/34) and leads Jared Rempel (Dordt) by three strokes heading into the final round. Ron Harder (Midland Lutheran) shot a one-over 73 and is in third place while a pair of USF golfers are five shots back in fourth place with a 75. Vermeer will be paired with Rempel and the Midland Lutheran #4 golfer in the final round and will tee off around noon.

This season, Vermeer has placed in the top 10 in all 11 tournaments and was crowned the GPAC Champion last week at the GPAC Championships played in Sioux City, Iowa. He is the 2008 GPAC Golfer-of-the-Year and currently is Northwestern's single season record holder with a 74.1 stroke average.

The Region III Championships will wrap up today at the Elmwood Golf Course.
