The Event... The Red Raider men's golf team will take part in the Midland Lutheran Invite today, April 14, at the Fremont Golf Club. Action will get underway at 10:00 am. The Teams... This year's tournament field is not known but last year's event featured 10 teams, including seven GPAC schools: Briar Cliff, Concordia, Dordt, Hastings, Midland Lutheran, Nebraska Wesleyan and Northwestern. Last Time Out... The Red Raiders last played back on April 3-4 at the two-day Nebraska Wesleyan Spring Invitational where they finished fifth out of nine teams with a 649. Northwestern shot a 318 on day two and were just five shots in back of Morningside and Southeast Community College. Luke Vermeer placed second overall, his fourth runner-up finish this season, with a 152. The sophomore shot an even-par 72 on day two after an opening round 80 and finished just one shot back from medalist Chris Rager from Morningside. Justin Pannkuk, competing in his first meet of the spring season, finished in a tie for 15th place with a 162. Nate Summers tied for 23rd place with a 166. Last Year's Results... Northwestern placed fourth out of 10 teams at last year's Invite with a 321. Nebraska Wesleyan won the team title with a 306, followed by Midland Lutheran (308) and Dordt (319). Luke Vermeer and Justin Pannkuk both finished in the top 10 with a 77 and Nate Summers shot an 84, good for 26th place. Red Raider Notes... Northwestern has finished in the top five three times this season (Morningside Invite, Red Raider Invite and Nebraska Wesleyan Spring Invite). They average a team score of 320.4 in 12 rounds this season. Individually, Luke Vermeer leads the team with a 74.42 stroke average and has placed in the top 10 in all nine meets this season. The sophomore has four runner-up finishes. Justin Pannkuk is averaging 79.5 and has placed in the top 10 in two meets. Nate Summers averages 81.8 and has recorded one top 10 finish. Next up... Northwestern will next compete at the Buena Vista Spring Invitational on Friday, April 18 before they head to Sioux City on Monday and Tuesday for the GPAC Conference Meet.
