Luke Vermeer carded a five-over 77 in the second round of the 2008 NAIA Men's Golf National Championship. The sophomore from Sioux Center, Iowa, is 11 over for the tournament and is currently tied for 81st place as he begins third round play on Thursday morning at 8:15am. The championship is being played at the Indiana National Golf Club in Plymouth, Ind.
Vermeer began the day with a bogey on the first hole, a 401-yard, par four, but followed with a birdie on the par three second. After three consecutive pars, he closed the front nine with three bogeys on the final four holes to card a 39 on the front nine. Vermeer found his groove as he started the back nine with five straight pars followed by a birdie on the 429-yard, par four 15th hole. After he parred 16, Vermeer finished the round with a double bogey and bogey to finish with a five-over 77.
After Thursday's third round, the championship field will be cut down to the top 40 individual golfers (including ties) and the top 17 teams.
