Vermeer Set to Play at the 2008 Men's Golf Championship

The Event... Luke Vermeer (Sioux Center, Iowa) will represent Northwestern College and the men's golf team at the 2008 NAIA Men's Golf Championship. The four day, 72-hole event is being played at the Indiana National Golf Club in Plymouth, Ind. Play will begin this morning (May 13) at 8:00 am and will conclude Friday, May 16. The Tournament Field... The 57th Annual Championship will feature 28 teams, including the 13 regional champions, 14 at-large berths and one host bid. In addition, four individual qualifiers (one of which is Vermeer) will be in the tournament field. The field size is a maximum of 144 golfers, including team champions, regional medalists, returning All-Tournament team players and at-large bids. The Format... The championship will consist of 72 holes over a four day span (Tuesday - Friday). The field will be cut down to the top 17 teams and 40 individuals (including ties) after the first 54 holes. The top 15 individuals automatically earn All-American honors.

The Season so Far... Vermeer placed in the top 10 in all 13 events this season and carries a 74.1 stroke average into the national championship. He has two individual championships and four runner-up finishes. Vermeer won the GPAC Conference Meet with an even-par 144 and followed with the regional championship one week later with a two-day score of 148. He was named GPAC Golfer-of-the-Year and earned first team all-conference.
