The Northwestern men's golf team carded a 322 and finished sixth in the fourth and final round of the GPAC Qualifier Championship played at Whispering Creek in Sioux City, Iowa. The Raiders finished the championship in seventh place overall out of 11 teams with a 1,280.
Nebraska Wesleyan continued its consistent play with a first place finish and carded a 310. The Prairie Wolves trailed by five heading into the final round but overtook second place Dakota Wesleyan by four shots. NWU shot a cumulative score of 1,223. Dakota Wesleyan finished second overall with a 1,227 after placing fifth in the fourth round with a 319. Both teams have qualified for the NAIA National Golf Championship in Silvis, Illinois (Quad Cities) at the TPC Deere Run but only DWU will compete. The Championships will run May 19-22.
Morningside finished a distant third overall with a 1,255, followed by Dordt (1,257) and Hastings (1,262).
Luke Vermeer led the Raiders in the fourth round as the junior tied for second place with a three-over 75. Vermeer finished the championship in seventh place and earned all-conference honors by placing in the top 10. Jon Roberts tied for 13th yesterday with a seven-over 79 and finished the championship in 25th place. Justin Pannkuk carded an 87 yesterday and dropped to 22nd place overall. Jamie Jeltema tied for 27th in the fourth round and finished 31st overall. Ross Kiewiet finished with an 86 after shooting an 82 in the third round.
Justin Zebolsky (Midland Lutheran) won the individual championship by nine strokes over E.J. Hamilton (Nebraska Wesleyan) with a 296 and will also move on to the NAIA National Championship.
