Men's Golf To Play At Briar Cliff Invite

The Event...Northwestern College will play in the Briar Cliff Men's Golf Invite on Tuesday, Oct. 7. The Red Raiders will begin play at Two Rivers Golf Club at 10:30am. 

Teams Competing...Among the teams competing will be Northwestern, Dordt, Morningside and Briar Cliff. 

Last Time Out...Northwestern College finished second at the second GPAC men's golf qualifier held at the Fremont Golf Club in Fremont, Neb last Monday.

The Red Raiders shot a 299 and finished second only to the host team, Midland, who shot a 292. Nebraska Wesleyan, the leader after the first round, carded a 300 today, followed by Doane (303) and Hastings (311). 

Justin Kraft was the top Red Raider golfer, finishing in a tie for third place with a one-over 72. Colton Kooima tied for fifth with a 74 (+3) and Jordy Reinders tied for 10th with a four-over 75. Ryan Christy (T24-78) and Evan Schuler (T27-79) round out the Red Raider scores. 

At the halfway point of the four-round GPAC Qualifier Championship, Northwestern is in fourth place with a 36-hole total of 608 (309/299). They are six strokes in back of third place Doane (602) and trail the overall leader, Midland, by 17 shots. Nebraska Wesleyan is in second with a 594, three strokes in back of the leader.

Kraft is the individual leader after 36 holes with a two-round score of 145 (73/72). He leads by one shot over three other golfers who carded a three-over 146. Kooima is in a four-way tied for 13th place with a 151 (+8) and Reinders is tied for 23rd with a 155 (+12). Schuler (T29th-158) and Christy (38th-160) round out the Red Raider golfers. 

Northwestern News and Notes...Northwestern holds a 304.0 scoring average through five events and eight rounds played this fall. They have won first place finish (Iowa Lakes), a second place finish (Siouxland) and two other top five finishes. 

Justin Kraft has won two events this fall and leads the Red Raiders with a 74.6 scoring average. The freshman has three top 10 finishes. Another freshman, Colton Kooima, is second on the team with a 75.6 scoring average and has one top five finish. Both Adam Bleeker and Cade McLaughlin carry a 78 average through two meets and both Jordy Reinders and Evan Schuler are next with a 78.1 average.

Up Next...The Red Raiders will conclude their fall season at the two-day, 36-hole William Penn Invite held in Oskaloosa, Iowa, this weekend (Oct. 10-11).
