Men's Golf To Play At Midland

The Event...Northwestern College will compete at the Midland Fall Invite on Tuesday, September 23 beginning at 10:30am. The meet will be held at the Fremont Golf and Country Club and serve as a preview of the upcoming GPAC Qualifier #2 event that will be played on Monday, September 29.

Teams Competing...10 of the 11 GPAC teams are scheduled to compete, including Briar Cliff, Concordia, Dakota Wesleyan, Doane, Dordt, Hastings, Midland, Morningside and Mount Marty. 

Last Time Out...Northwestern College tied for seventh in last week's GPAC Qualifier #1 played at Wild Oak Golf Club in Mitchell, S.D.

Northwestern shot a 309 and is tied with both Morningside and Dakota Wesleyan for seventh place out of 11 teams after the first 18 holes. Defending GPAC champion Nebraska Wesleyan is in first place with a 294, followed by Doane and Midland with 299. 

Freshman Justin Kraft led Northwestern with a one-over 73 and is in a tie for seventh place out of 54 golfers. Two more freshmen, Colton Kooima and Evan Schuler, were the next lowest for the Red Raiders. Kooima tied for 24th with a five-over 77 and Schuler tied for 31st with a 79 (+7). Jordy Reinders (T36th-80) and Ryan Christy (T44-82) were the other NWC scores. 

Last Year...Northwestern did not compete in the Midland Open last year.

Northwestern Line-Up...The Red Raiders have a 302.5 scoring average and have finished in the top five in two of the three meets played. They placed second in the two-day Siouxland Invite and then finished fifth out of 16 teams at the two-day Palace City Classic. 

Freshmen Justin Kraft leads Northwestern with a 75 scoring average and two top-10 finishes. Another freshman, Colton Kooima, is second on the team with a 75.6 scoring average and one top five finish. Ryan Christy (76.4), Evan Schuler (77.8) and Jordy Reinders (78.8) round out the NWC line-up. 

Up Next...Northwestern will play in a meet hosted by Iowa Lakes Community College on Sept. 26 in Milford, Iowa.
