The Event...The Northwestern College men's golf team will make its 2014-15 season debut as they co-host a two-day meet with Dordt College on Sept. 4-5. Thursday's round will take place at The Ridge in Sioux Center, Iowa, while Friday's final round will be at the Red Raiders home course, Landsmeer Golf Club.
Teams Competing...A total of 13 teams and 72 golfers are scheduled to compete in the two-day event; Northwestern (2 teams), Concordia (2 teams), Dordt (3 teams), AIB, Briar Cliff, Jamestown, Iowa Lakes Community College, Morningside and Mount Marty.
Outlook...Northwestern returns five golfers from its 2013-14 team that finished fifth at the GPAC Championships last spring. They graduated two all-conference players, Neil Malenke and Ryan Kiewiet, who both earned All-American honors in 2013.
Head coach Aaron Aberson begins his fifth season as the head coach and 11th season overall (assistant and player) with the program. He earned GPAC coach of the year honors after leading the Red Raiders to the NAIA National Championship and winning the GPAC Championship back-to-back years (2012-13).
Senior Jordy Reinders (Orange City, Iowa) is the top returning golfer, posting an average of 79.8 in seven events played last season. He has a career average of 80.2 and had one top five finish in 2014. Sophomore Adam Minor (Des Moines, Iowa) had a scoring average of 80.8 in four meets last year. Another sophomore, Ryan Christy (Orange City, Iowa), had a scoring average of 81.8 and had two top-10 finishes as a freshman last year.
