Fox Run Golf Club
The Event...Northwestern College will compete in the fourth and final round of the GPAC Championship on Monday, April 28 at Fox Run Golf Club in Yankton, S.D. The first Red Raider golfer will tee off on #1 at 11:40am, along with golfers from Nebraska Wesleyan and Doane.
Prior Rounds...The first three rounds of the four-round, 72-hole event were played earlier this year, two last fall and one, the third round, played just one week ago. See below for the third round recap and results from all three prior rounds:
Northwestern College tied for fourth in the third GPAC men's golf qualifier held April 21 at the Lochland Golf Club in Hastings, Neb.
The Red Raiders tied Midland for fourth place with a third round score of 310, two shots in back of Doane. Nebraska Wesleyan won Monday's third round with a 296, the only team to shoot under 300. Morningside finished second with a 303.
Three Northwestern golfers, Ryan Kiewiet, Neil Malenke and Kyle Stanek, tied for sixth with a four-over 76, five strokes in back of third round medalist Rory Doll of Nebraska Wesleyan. Doll was the only golfer under par on Monday with a 71 (-1). Jordan Oltman tied for 35th with an 82 (+10) and Ryan Christy tied for 43rd with a an 85 (+13).
The leaders after the first two rounds, Northwestern dropped to second place after Monday's round with a 54-hole total of 928, six strokes in back of Nebraska Wesleyan with a 922. Doane is just three strokes in back of Northwestern with a 931, followed by Midland (938) and Morningside (943).
Kiewiet and Malenke are tied for third place with a three-round, 54-hole total of 226 (+11). Both golfers trail the overall leader, Doll (NWU), by two strokes. Jonas Christensen (Doane) is in second place with a 225 (+10). Stanek is tied with two other golfers for seventh place with a 233 (+18).
Northwestern Line-Up and Notes...The Red Raiders have a team scoring average of 301.8 and have won three events this season. Last time out, Northwestern won the Mount Marty Invite with a 298, played at the same course as Monday's fourth GPAC Qualifier. The Red Raiders are the two-time defending champions, winning the conference title in 2012 and 2013.
Ryan Kiewiet leads the team with a 73.4 scoring average, winning three events this season. The senior has finished in the top 10 six times and has a career scoring average of 75.8. Neil Malenke has a scoring average of 74.8 and has earned medalist honors twice. Like Kiewiet, Malenke has finished in the top 10 six time this season and has a career scoring average of 75.2. Kyle Stanek brings a 77.8 scoring average into Monday's final round with two top five finishes. Jordan Oltman (79.3), Jordy Reinders (79.8) and Ryan Christy (81.6) round out the Red Raider golfers.
