Men's Golf To Compete at Morningside Invite

The Event...Northwestern College will compete in the Morningside Men's Golf Fall Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at Whispering Creek Golf Club in Sioux City, Iowa. Tuesday's event will begin with a shotgun start at 11:30am. 

Teams Competing...The tournament field consists of nine teams, all from the Great Plains Athletic Conference; Morningside, Briar Cliff, Concordia, Dakota Wesleyan, Dordt, Hastings, Midland, Mount Marty and Northwestern. 

Last Time Out...Neil Malenke earned medalist honors in leading Northwestern College to a second place finish at the two-day Palace City Classic in Mitchell, S.D. on Sept. 27-28.

The senior from Orange City, Iowa, carded a 36-hole total of 140, opening with a school record 65 (-7) and finishing with a 75 on Saturday. Malenke finished one shot in front of second place Ben Vetrovsky (Hastings) at 141 (67/74). 

Northwestern finished second overall out of 13 teams with a 36-hole total of 581 (279/302), one shot in back of the team champion, Hastings.

Senior Ryan Kiewiet tied for third with a 142 (69/73), finishing two-under. Caleb Malenke tied for 14th with a 150 (72/78) while Jordan Oltman (T19-152) and Jordy Reinders (T26-153) round out the Red Raiders line-up. 

Northwestern News and Notes...The Red Raiders have a 295.8 scoring average over four meets this fall, winning one (Siouxland) and finishing second in two others. 

Seven players have an 80 average or better, led by senior Neil Malenke with a 72.1 scoring average. Malenke has finished in the top five in all four events played with one win. Senior Ryan Kiewiet ranks second on the team with a 72.3 scoring average, winning one meet and finishing in the top five three times. Kyle Stanek is third on the team with a 74.8 scoring average and two top five finishes while both Jordy Reinders and Caleb Malenke have an average of 77.4. Jordan Oltman (77.8) and Andrew Minor (79.5) also have an average lower than 80.

All 10 players will compete on Tuesday. 

Up Next...Northwestern will next compete in the second GPAC Qualifier on Monday, Oct. 14 at Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb.
