Men's Golf Resumes Season In Mitchell, S.D.

The Event...The Northwestern College men's golf team resumes its fall season at the Palace City Invite, hosted by Dakota Wesleyan this weekend in Mitchell, S.D. The two-day, 36-hole event begins on Friday, Sept. 27 at 1pm on Lakeview Golf Club and will conclude on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Wild Oak Golf Club, beginning at 10am. 

Teams Competing...10 teams are scheduled to compete this weekend, including six from the GPAC. Dakota Wesleyan, Dordt, Briar Cliff, Northwestern, Mount Marty, Hastings, Valley City State, Jamestown, Northeast Community College and Columbus Community College are all scheduled to compete. 

Last Year...Northwstern earned its fourth win in as many events, taking first at the two-day Palace City Classic last year. The Red Raiders shot a 284 on the first day and closed with a 290, finishing with a 36-hole total of 574 and 36 strokes in front of second place DWU with a 610.

Ryan Kiewiet earned medalist honors, carding a 139 (66/73) and finishing five strokes ahead of Neil Malenke. Kiewiet set the school record for the lowest 18-hole score with an opening round 66 (-6). Malenke placed second with a 144, followed by Kyle Stanek who placed fifth with a 148. 

Northwestern News and Notes...The Red Raiders have a team average of 298.5 after three meets, finishing in the top five three times. They won the Siouxland Invite, finished second in the first GPAC Qualifier and placed fifth in the Grand View Viking Classic. 

Ryan Kiewiet leads the team with a 72.8 scoring average, winning one event and placing in the top 10 twice. Neil Malenke brings a 73 scoring average into the weekend, finishing in the top five in all three events. Jordy Reinders is fourth on the team with a 78 scoring average, followed by Caleb Malenke (79) and Jordan Oltman (79.5). 

Up Next...Northwestern will compete in the Morningside Invitational on Oct. 8 at Whispering Creek Golf Club in Sioux City, Iowa.
