The Event...The Northwestern College men's golf team resumes its season as they begin play at the Grand View Invitational on Monday, Sept. 16. The two-day event will conclude the following day and is played at the Tournament Club of Iowa. The Red Raiders will tee off around 1pm along and will be in a group with Grand View and Kirkwood Community College.
Teams Competing...Nine teams are scheduled to compete; Grand View (2), Kirkwood CC, Bellevue, Ashford, Morningside, Mount Mercy and Graceland.
Red Raider Notes...Northwestern won its only event played this fall, taking first at the two-day Siouxland Invite played on Sept. 5-6. The Red Raiders shot a 36-hole total of 580, opening with a 289 and finishing with a 291. Ryan Kiewiet took home medalist honors and earned GPAC player of the week accolades with a six-under 136 (69/67), tying the second lowest 18-hole score in the program's history with the 67. Neil Malenke finished second with an even-par 142 (70/72) and Kyle Stanek placed third with a two-over 144 (70/74).
Kiewiet has a career average of 76.1 and was named an All-American last season. Malenke, the reigning GPAC player of the year, was also an All-American last season and has a career average of 75.2. Stanek earned all-conference honors last year and brings a 77.1 career scoring average into the meet. Ryan Christy (79.5) and Caleb Malenke round out the NWC line-up.
Up Next...Northwestern will next play in the first round of the GPAC Qualifier on Thursday, Sept. 19 at the Green Valley Golf Club in Sioux City, Iowa.
