Showdown Between Ranked Teams on Saturday

Game Time...Northwestern College hosts Dakota Wesleyan this weekend in a conference showdown between top-ranked teams. Tip-off on Saturday, Jan. 7 is scheduled for 4pm. Northwestern, ranked fourth in the last NAIA coaches' poll, is 7-1 in the GPAC, 17-2 overall. Ranked 12th, the Tigers are 6-1 in conference play, 15-4 overall.

All-Time...Northwestern leads the all-time series 43-25 since the first ever match-up in the 1965-66 season. The Red Raiders are 6-4 against DWU over the last 10 match-ups, splitting last year's games with each team winning on their respective home court.

No.12 Dakota Wesleyan Tigers: 6-1 (2nd), 15-4  Head Coach: Matt Wilber (4th year)

DWU had its seven-game win streak snapped last time out, losing a non-conference match-up at Dakota State, 76-67, earlier this week. Prior to that loss, they earned wins over Doane, Hastings, Jamestown, Dubuque, Central Christian, York and Southeastern. The Tigers are second in the GPAC with a 6-1 record, 15-4 overall, and are ranked 12th in the last NAIA D-II coaches' poll.

Matt Wilber is in his fourth season as the Tigers' head coach, guiding DWU to back-to-back NAIA D-II National Championships. Under his direction, DWU was the national runner-up in 2014-15 and finished with a program-best 32-5 record. Last year, Wilber led DWU to a 23-11 record, losing to York in the second round at nationals. Two starters and five players return from last year's squad. 

Dakota Wesleyan is one of the highest scoring teams in the NAIA, ranking fifth at 92ppg. They also rank fourth in field goal percentage (52%) and in three-pointers (196).

Northwestern is the top rebounding team in the GPAC at +13; 3rd best in the NAIA

Northwestern is sixth in the NAIA in field goal percentage (51%) and 11th in 3pt % (40%)

Colton Kooima is the top scorer in the GPAC at 23ppg, 5th best in the NAIA; Kooima has scored in double figures in all but two of his games played

Derek Buysse scores 13ppg and has 37 3pters, shooting 43% from beyond the arc.

Nathan Wedel scores 13ppg and leads the team with 74 assists, fourth best in the GPAC
