Balanced Scoring Leads Northwestern Past Mount Marty

Balanced scoring and a good shooting night keyed the Red Raiders' 90-55 win over Mount Marty on Wednesday night in the Bultman Center. Northwestern sweeps the season series against the Lancers and improves to 6-7 in conference play, 13-8 overall. 

Five NWC players scored in double figures, led by Colton Kooima with 17. The freshman drained five three-pointers and also came up with three steals. Taylor Francis poured in 15 points, downing three from beyond the arc. Eli Ihnen added a career best 12 points, including two three-pointers, while Jordan Baker (11) and Nathan Wedel (10) were also in double figures. 

Northwestern never trailed and broke open a tight game early with a 21-4 run for commanding 35-17 lead with 4:38 left in the first half. A three-pointer by Ihnen got the rally started with the first of his two three-pointers during the decisive run, which as capped by a lay-up by Bryce Moss. Northwestern led 39-25 at the break.

A quick start to the second half put the Lancers down by just nine (43-34) but Wedel dished out assists to Kooima on back-to-back three-pointers as Northwestern pushed the lead to 21 (55-34) at the 15-minute mark. The Red Raiders shot 64% in the final half, 73% from the three-point line, as they pushed the lead to 30+ points the rest of the way.

Northwestern shot 57% for the game and drained 13-of-24 three-pointers. They held a huge 41-22 advantage on the boards, led by Ihnen with five. Wedel dished out six assists and Taylor Francis added four.

Mount Marty shot 35% for the game and was led by Bud Smith with 15 points. The Lancers fall to 0-15 in the GPAC, 1-20 overall.
