Game Time...Northwestern College heads to Lincoln, Neb. to play Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday, Jan. 24. Tip-off in Lincoln, Neb. is scheduled for 4pm. Northwestern heads into the weekend in sixth place in the GPAC, one game in front of NWU with a 5-6 conference record. They are 12-7 overall. The Prairie Wolves are in seventh place with a 4-7 league record, 7-9 overall. All-Time...Northwestern has won eight straight and is 9-1 over the last 10 games against the Prairie Wolves. The Red Raiders lead the all-time series 20-17.

Last Time vs NWU...Northwestern pulled away late in earning a 109-102 win over Nebraska Wesleyan in a GPAC men's basketball match-up played December 6 at the Bultman Center. 

Tied at 93 following a three-pointer by Paul Newby, Northwestern scored the next six points on back-to-back jumpers by Levi Ettleman and a lay-up by Colton Kooima to take the lead for good. The Red Raiders went 4-for-4 from the free throw line and scored on eight of its final nine possessions to preserve the win.

Northwestern shot 60% for the game and had seven players score in double figures, led by Levi Ettleman with a season-high 18 points and seven rebounds. Both Kooima and Taylor Francis scored 15 and Jordan Baker recorded another double-double with 13 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. 

Nebraska Wesleyan shot 35% for the game, led by Trey Bardsley with 22 points. Travis Giesselmann added 16 points and four rebounds and Byron Thompson added 12. 

Scouting the Wolves...Nebraska Wesleyan is currently in seventh place in the GPAC with a 4-7 league record, 7-9 overall. They trail Northwestern by one game and are 1.5 games in front of eighth place Concorida. The Wolves are 5-1 since the Holiday break, earning wins over Austin, Mount Marty, Hastings, Dordt and Doane but lost to #3 Dakota Wesleyan last time out, 97-63. 

Dale Wellman is in his first season as the head coach of the Wolves after spending the last six years in the same role at Alfred University (N.Y.). Wellman inherits a Nebraska Wesleyan team that returns one starter and six players from a 2013-14 team that finished tied with Dakota Wesleyan for fifth place in the GPAC with a 10-10 record, 15-11 overall. 

NWU ranks second in the NAIA in scoring, averaging 92 points per game. They are shooting 42% from the field and lead the NAIA in three-point shooting, making an average of 12 per game. Defensively, NWU is giving up 96 points per game, most among GPAC teams.

Trey Bardsley leads the GPAC in scoring, pouring in over 21 points per game. He also leads the team with 57 three-pointers and 64 assists. Three additional NWU players are scoring in double figures, led by Travis Giesselmann at 15.6 points and a team-high 5.4 rebounds per game. Keithan Karn (10.2) and Byron Thompson (10.1) are the other top two scorers.

Northwestern News and Notes...The Red Raiders are in sixth place in the GPAC with a 5-6 league record, just one game up on seventh place Nebraska Wesleyan. They are 2-2 over their last four games, losing to ranked teams Dakota Wesleyan and Morningside and defeating Dordt and Concordia. Northwestern is 12-7 overall. 

Northwestern is scoring 89 points per game while shooting 50% from the field and 36% from beyond the arc. They rank second in the NAIA in rebounding (+12) and are giving up 80 points per game on the defensive end.

Colton Kooima is one of three players scoring in double figures, averaging 15 points per game. The freshman ranks eighth in the GPAC with 51 three-pointers, shooting 44% from beyond the arc. Jordan Baker averages 13.3 points and a GPAC-best 8.8 rebounds per contest. Nathan Wedel scores 13 points per game and is shooting 57% from the field.
