All-Time...Northwestern is 16-3 all-time against Dakota State in a rivalry that began in 1970-71. The Red Raiders have won two straight, including an 84-81 road victory played earlier this year in Madison, S.D.

Last Time vs Dakota State...Colton Kooima knocked down a three-pointer just before time expired in leading Northwestern to an 84-81 come-from-behind road win against Dakota State in Madison, S.D.

Trailing by one (79-78) after a three-point play by Derek Meger with 29 seconds left, Kooima hit a three-pointer  to put Northwestern in front 81-79 with 13 seconds on the clock. Dakota State inbounded the ball to Bryant Allen, who immediately drove the full length and hit a floater in the lane with just four seconds left to seemingly send the game into overtime tied at 81. Northwestern, however, inbounded the ball to Kooima, who hit the game-winner just in front of the Red Raiders bench as time expired.

Both teams shot well for the game with Northwestern at 54% and the host Trojans at 52%. Jordan Baker led all scorers with 22 points, making 11-of-his-14 field goal attempts. The sophomore also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Nathan Wedel added 16 points while Kooima (15) and Taylor Francis (10) were also in double figures.

Miguel Sansavour led Dakota State with 21 points and nine boards. Meger added 18 and Allen put in 13.

Scouting Dakota State...The Trojans snapped its four game losing skid last time out with a 78-67 non-conference win over Mount Marty last weekend in Yankton, S.D. Their other win was an 86-70 season-opening victory over Waldorf back on Oct. 29. DSU has losses to three GPAC teams (Northwestern, Dordt and Dakota Wesleyan) along with a setback to Grand View.

Gary Garner is in his sixth season as the Dakota State head coach and returns two starters and four players off a 2013-14 team that finished second in the North Star Athletic Conference with a 6-2 record, 15-15 overall. They lost to the University of Jamestown in the conference championship last season but went 8-4 over their last 12 games. Prior to coming to DSU, Garner served as head coach at Drake and Southwest Missouri State. Garner has led the Trjojans to two NAIA D-II national tournaments.

Dakota State averages 77 points per game, shooting 47% from the field and an impressive 40% from the three-point arc. Defensively, they are giving up 79 points per game.

Bryant Allen, a transfer from Illinois State, leads the team in scoring at 20 points per game, shooting 44% from the field. He also leads the team with 18 assists and 14 three-pointers. Returning starter Miguel Sansavour chips in 12.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. The senior earned second team all-conference honors and was named the defensive player of the year in 2013-14. Both freshman Brendon Boomsma and Derek Meger, a transfer from Vermillion Community College, score 11 points per game. Boomsma is second on the team with 12 three-pointers, shooting 52% from beyond the arc.

Northwestern News and Notes...The Red Raiders had their three-game win streak snapped last time out, losing in their conference opener 89-82 to Hastings. Prior to that, Northwestern had three straight wins over Valley City State, #2 Cardinal Stritch and Dakota State.

The Red Raiders are shooting 49% from the field and 37% from beyond the arc, putting in over seven three-pointers per game. They are the second best rebounding team in the nation, owning a +15 advantage on the boards over their opponents.
