Dakota Wesleyan News and Notes...The Tigers have won five straight games heading into Wednesday's match-up, improving their record to 3-4 in the GPAC, 10-7 overall. They are currently tied with Nebraska Wesleyan for sixth place in the conference standings. After dropping five in a row earlier this season, DWU has rattled off wins over Doane, Presentation, Concordia, Dakota State and Hastings during its streak.

Matt Wilbur is in his first year as the Tigers's head coach, taking over for Shane Murphy who stepped down at the end of last season. Wilbur has previous coaching stints at both South Dakota State and the University of Sioux Falls and was most recently involved with the TIBBS basketball school. He inherits a DWU team that returns three starters and six players off a 2012-13 team that finished eighth in the GPAC with a 9-11 league record, 14-17 overall.

DWU is sixth in the league in scoring at 79 points per game, shooting 46% from the field. The Tigers are the top three-point shooting team in the GPAC and rank fourth in the NAIA at 9.5 per game, shooting 37% from beyond the arc. They are second in rebounding (+6) and are giving up 72 points per game.

Jalen Voss leads the team in both scoring (19.9) and rebounding (6.0) in his third year as a starter for DWU. Voss was the GPAC freshman of the year in 2012 while earning first team accolades last year. Sophomore Trae Bergh scores 16.2 points per game and is second in the nation with 60 three-pointers, shooting an impressive 46% from long range. Kris Menning returns as a starter and is scoring 13.8 points per game while Jade Miller scores 12.5 points per game coming off the bench. Newcomer Tate Martin, a transfer from the University of Mary (N.D.) leads the NAIA with 110 assists.

Northwestern News and Notes...The Red Raiders are currently in eight place in the GPAC with a 2-5 record, just one game in back of both Dakota Wesleyan and Nebraska Wesleyan. They have dropped two straight conference games, losing to Midland and Doane prior to the break. Last time out, Northwestern earned an 86-84 come from behind win over Buena Vista in a non-conference match-up played on Jan. 4. They trailed by as much as 23 points in the first half before rallying behind Zack Leeper's career-best 37-point effort. Levi Ettleman made a reverse lay-up with 17 seconds left to give the Red Raiders the win.

Northwestern ranks in the middle of the conference in scoring (77ppg) and field goal percentage (45%) while owning a +5 advantage on the boards, fourth best in the GPAC. Defensively, they give up 76 points per game and teams are shooting 44% from the field.

Leeper is one of two Red Raider players scoring in double figures, averaging 18 points per game. The senior has scored in double figures in every game this season and also leads the team with 31 three-pointers, shooting 37% from beyond the arc. Jordan Baker scores 14 points per game, shooting 59% from the field, third best in the conference. Baker has scored in double figures in 15 games and is the team's top rebounder (6.6). Joey Habtemariam scores 9.5 points per game and is third in the GPAC with 67 assists while Levi Ettleman (7.5) and Tyler Goldston (6.4) are the other top scorers.
