Red Raiders To Play Nebraska Wesleyan

Game Time...Northwestern goes for its season-best third straight win as they play Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 4pm. All-Time...The all-time series is dead even between these two teams with each team winning 17 games. Northwestern has had the upper hand of late, winning 13 of the last 14 games, including the last five in a row. 

Scouting Nebraska Wesleyan...The Wolves are an even 1-1 in the conference, defeating Dakota Wesleyan back on Nov. 23 but losing to Midland last time out, 64-50. NWU is 5-1 overall, recording wins over Grace, Nebraska Christian, Illinois Tech and Barclay. 

Cam Schuknecht is in his eighth season as the Wolves' head coach and returns all five starters and nine players off last year's team that won the most games since the 2007-08 season, finishing with a 13-12 record. They were ninth in the GPAC at 8-12. 

Traditionally one of the top defensive teams in the NAIA, NWU is fourth in the nation in points per game given up (61ppg). They are holding teams to 41% from the field and just 31% from beyond the arc. The Wolves are scoring 85 points per game and shooting better than 50% from the floor. 

Senior guard Eric Jackson, a second team all-GPAC pick last year, is one of the starters returning for the Wolves, averaging 10.3 points per game. Senior Trevor Johnson, the reigning GPAC player of the week, is the leading scorer and rebounder at 18.2 points and six boards per game. He was an honorable mention all-GPAC pick in 2013. Both Trent Scheitel and Trey Bardsley score in double figures at 10.3 and 10.0 points per game, respectively. 

Northwestern News and Notes...After opening conference play with an 0-3 record, Northwestern earned its first league win on Wednesday night, defeating Mount Marty 87-64. The Red Raiders are 7-6 overall. 

Northwestern averages 77 points per game, shooting 44% from the field and 32% from beyond the arc. They have made 79 three-pointers this season, averaging six per game, and own a +8 advantage on the glass. Defensively, Northwestern is giving up 75 points while holding opponents to 44% from the floor. 

Zack Leeper is the top scorer, averaging 15.6 points per game. The senior has reached double figures in every game this season and needs 21 more points to reach 1,000 for his career. Leeper also leads the team with 20 three-pointers, shooting 32% from beyond the arc. Jordan Baker averages 13.5 points and leads the team in rebounding (7.1). The freshman is shooting 57% from the field and has three double-doubles this season. Joey Habtemariam (9.6) and Tyler Goldston (7.3) are the other top scorers while six other players all average from 4-7 points for NWC.
