Men's Basketball To Play AIB

Game Time...Northwestern College heads to Des Moines, Iowa, to play AIB University in a non-conference men's basketball match-up on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 3pm. All-Time...This is just the second match-up between the two teams as Northwestern defeated the Eagles last year 95-28 in Orange City, Iowa. 

Scouting AIB...Members of the seven-team Midwest Collegiate Conference, AIB has an 0-6 record so far this season. They have lost to four team from the GPAC (Dordt, Doane, Hastings and Briar Cliff) and also lost to Peru State and Graceland to start the season. 

Head coach Cory Jenkins is in his second season as the Eagles' head coach, taking over full-time duties last year at the semester break. Jenkins, a former standout player at the University of Northern Iowa, also spent two years as the team's assistant. He returns three starters and seven players off a 2012-13 team that finished 1-11 in the MCC, 1-30 overall. 

AIB averages 66 points per game while shooting 44% from the field and 29% (33/115) from beyond the arc. Opponents are scoring 88 points per game and hold a +13 edge in rebounding. Junior guard Brandon Eley returns as the team's leading scorer from last year and averages 15.3 points per game. Eley, an all-conference pick last year, also leads the team in rebounding at 5.5 boards per game. Junior Darryl Stewart, a transfer from the University of Wisconsin-Richland, scores 14.5 points per game. Sophomore Jason Cameron returns to the Eagles front court and scores 11 points per game and Brandon Rosales leads the team with 13 three-pointers. 

Northwestern News and Notes...The Red Raiders evened their record to 4-4 with a 69-66 home win over 18th-ranked Dakota State on Wednesday night. Of the four losses this season, three are to ranked teams (Davenport, Hastings and Dakota State).

Northwestern is scoring 77 points per game this season, shooting 43% from the field. They have a +6 edge on the boards and defensively are giving up 75 points per game. Zack Leeper leads the team in scoring and has scored in double figures in all eight games this season. The senior averages 17 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, also leading the team with 14 three-pointers. Jordan Baker is the other player scoring in double figures, averaging 12.3 points and  6.8 rebounds per game in the post. Joey Habtemariam (9.1) and Tyler Goldston (8.9) are the other top scorers while Keegan Mulder has 13 three-pointers, shooting 52% from beyond the arc.
