The Red Raiders defeated Briar Cliff 95-80 on senior/parent's day in the final game of the regular season for both teams. Northwestern improved to 15-3 in the GPAC and clinched sole possession of second place in the league. They are 24-4 overall. The Chargers fall to 11-7 in the league and 19-11 overall. With the score tied at 19, Northwestern used an 8-0 run, capped by a Curt Schilling three pointer, to pull away and take the lead for good. The Red Raiders built the lead up to as much as 16 in the first half and led 52-41 at intermission. They shot an impressive 62% from the field during the opening half. Coach Korver's squad continued to build on their lead in the second half, by as much as 20 (78-58) after a Ben Brown three pointer with 10 minutes left to play. They went on to record the double-digit win, 95-80. The Red Raiders shot 49% from the floor, 46% from the three point line. Curt Schilling led four NWC players in double figures with 25 points. Andrew Stimson netted a season high 19 points and dished out four assists. Kale Wiertzema also scored 19 points while Chad Schuiteman added 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Defensively, NWC forced the Chargers into 28 turnovers. Northwestern will begin GPAC Tournament play this Thursday night at 8:00 pm against an opponent to be determined.
