The Red Raiders lost to GPAC rival Dordt College, 84-60, in a showdown of ranked teams. Northwestern, ranked ninth in the current NAIA rankings, falls to 17-4 overall, 8-3 in the GPAC. The Defenders, ranked 25th, improves to 15-7 overall and 9-3 in the league.

After a brief 2-0 NWC lead, Dordt scored the next six points and never trailed from that point. Dordt increased their lead to up to 16 points in the first half on two different occasions, the last one at 31-15 with six minutes left. The Red Raiders rallied as they held Dordt without a field goal and outscored them 7-1 to trail 32-22 at halftime.

It was all Dordt in the second half as the Defenders outscored NWC 13-4 to start the period and kept the lead at 10 points or more the rest of the game.

Northwestern shot a season-low 35% for the game compared to 48% for the Defenders. Chad Schuiteman was the only NWC player in double figures with 15 points. In doing so, Schuiteman surpassed the 2,000 point milestone and now has 2,007 points in his career. He also ripped down a game-high 15 rebounds. Curt Schilling and Mark DeYounge added eight points each. Dordt was led by Michael Eekhoff with 15 points followed by Eric Van Maanen with 13.

The Red Raiders will next play host to Nebraska Wesleyan this Saturday, Feb. 2, at 4:00 pm.
