The 12th-ranked Red Raiders defeated Mount Marty 81-70 in GPAC men's basketball Wednesday night at the Bultman Center. Northwestern improved to 16-3 overall, 7-2 in the GPAC while the Lancers fall to 2-7 in the league, 7-14 overall. Trailing by seven, 40-33, with just over two minutes left in the half, Northwestern went on an 8-2 run to cut the Lancer lead down to one, 42-41 at the half. The Red Raiders then outscored MMC 14-6 to start the second half en route to the 11-point, 81-70 win. NWC shot 55% for the game compared to 45% for the Lancers, including just 38% in the second half. Mark DeYounge scored a career-high 23 points, making 8-9 field goal attempts and was perfect from the free throw line (5/5). Curt Schilling netted 18 points while Chad Schuiteman and Andrew Stimson added 10 points each. Schuiteman pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds and dished out seven assists. The Red Raiders travel to Blair, Neb. to play Dana College on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 4:00 pm.
