The Red Raiders lost to Briar Cliff, 70-65, in GPAC men's basketball last night. Northwestern, which moved up one spot to seventh in the NAIA poll, falls to 15-3 overall, 6-2 in the GPAC. The Chargers improve to 13-7 overall, 6-3 in the GPAC.

With the Chargers ahead 22-14, Northwestern closed the first half with a 16-6 run to take a slim 30-28 halftime lead. BCU scored the first six points of the second half to retake the lead, 34-30. They led by as much as eight (40-32) before the Red Raiders outscored the hosts 19-10 to gain a 51-50 lead with four minutes left. Briar Cliff, then, scored the next nine points to gain the lead for good and earned the upset win.

Northwestern shot 46% for the game compared to 39% for the Chargers. Chad Schuiteman led four Red Raider players in double figures with 16 points. Ryan Hoogeveen added 12 points off the bench followed by Curt Schilling and Andrew Stimson with 11 points each. NWC out-rebounded BCU 44-26, led by Schuiteman with 18. Hoogeveen added four assists for NWC.

The Red Raiders have the weekend off before they host Mount Marty on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 8:00 pm.
