The Northwestern College men's basketball team defeated Midland Lutheran in GPAC action last night, 88-68, in a game originally scheduled for last Saturday afternoon. The Red Raiders improve to 7-2 overall and even their league record to 1-1. NWC trailed early on against the Warriors but took their first lead at 17-16 with 12:25 left in the first half. They extended the lead to double digits (36-26) with 4:09 left and held a 47-31 advantage at halftime. Northwestern continued to roll in the second half as the led by as much as 30 (77-47) with 9:27 to go in the game. The Red Raiders shot 59% for the game and limited Midland Lutheran to just 41%. Kale Wiertzema led three NWC players in double figures with 21 points while Curt Schilling added 17. Josh Van Es came off the bench to score 10 points on a perfect night from the field (4/4) and free throw line (2/2). Chad Schuiteman pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds, scored eight points and dished out six assists. Northwestern will play two more conference road games this week as they head to Mitchell, S.D. to play Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 8:00 pm. They will then play Mount Marty on Saturday in Yankton, S.D.
