The Red Raiders suffered their second loss of the season as they lost to top-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene, 87-75. Northwestern falls to 6-2 this season while the Pioneers improve to 8-0 overall. The Red Raiders scored the first basket of the game but then fell behind 10-2 with 17:04 left to play. Northwestern battled back to three points, 18-15, but MNU responded with a 16-10 run to the Pioneers back up by nine with four minutes left in the first half. The Red Raiders trailed by eight, 42-34, at the half. Northwestern cut the lead down to three early in the second half (59-56) but MNU scored the next eight points and led 67-56 with nine minutes left to play. The Red Raiders got the lead back down to five on two different occasions but did not get any closer. Coach Korver's squad shot just 36% from the floor and made 2/15 three pointers for 13%. MidAmerica Nazarene shot 57% from the field and made 5/11 three point shots. Kale Wiertzema and Chad Schuiteman led NWC with 21 points each. Schuiteman also grabbed 13 rebounds, dished out three assists and had three steals. Curt Schilling netted 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds. The Pioneers were led by Cal Kiburz who scored 21 points before fouling out late in the second half. Northwestern will next host Midland Lutheran on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 4:00 pm.
