Northwestern defeated Avila 99-79 in the fourth and final game of the Pizza Ranch Classic in Orange City, Iowa.  Northwestern and Concordia both finished with 2-0 records while St. Ambrose and Avila both went 0-2.  

The Raiders and Eagles played a tight game through the first 30 minutes then the Raiders pulled away late in the 20 point victory.  Northwestern was led by seniors Chad Schuiteman and Curt Schilling who both posted 21 points.  Schuiteman has had a team highs of eight rebounds and six assists.  Gaurd Kale Wiertzema had 14 points, four rebounds, five assists, and five steals and senior post Mark DeYounge had 17 points.  The Raiders trailed at half time 49-48, the first time they had trailed at the half this season.

Coach Korver's squad shot 33 for 56 from the field, good for 58% and was 30 for 40 from the free throw line.  The Raiders won the rebounding battle 33-30 and had 15 turnovers to Avila's 20.  Northwestern, ranked #2 in the nation, will travel to York, Nebr. on Tuesday to face York College in non-conference action.
