Northwestern defeated Grace University, 105-72, at the Taco John's/Subway men's basketball classic, hosted by Northwestern College. The Red Raiders improve to 6-1 overall while the Royals fall to 2-4 this season. With the win, Head Coach Kris Korver earns his 198th win and passes Todd Barry with the most wins in the history of the men's basketball program.

The Red Raiders began the game with an 11-3 run and led 21-11 after six minutes of play. The Royals and Head Coach Thad Mott called a timeout and responded with an 8-0 run which cut the lead down to two, 21-19. Leading 28-24, Northwestern outscored Grace, 34-11, over the final 10 minutes of the first half to take a 62-35 lead.

Northwestern continued to roll in the second half as they extended the lead to over 30 points by the end of the game. They shot 53% for the game and out-rebounded the Royals, 45-29.

Five Red Raiders scored in double figures, led by Chad Schuiteman with 16 points. The senior forward also grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out seven assists. Curt Schilling and Josh Van Es each scored 15 points and Travis Van Regenmorter and Mark DeYounge added 10 each.

Grace was led by Paul Putz who netted a game-high 29 points and Ed Kaiser added 16 points.

Northwestern will next play top-ranked and defending national champion, MidAmerica Nazarene, at 6:00pm, on the second day of the Taco John's/Subway Classic. The Pioneers defeated Briar Cliff in the first game, 89-88, behind 32 points by Danny Hawkins.
