Scouting Report... The Panthers and first year Head Coach Tom Linnell enter tonight's contest with a 1-4 record. After a season opening 70-65 win against Concordia, York has lost their last four games, three of which to GPAC schools (Briar Cliff, Hastings and Dordt). The Panthers return two starters from last year's 8-22 squad, led by honorable mention all-MCC forward, Darus Bowman. The senior is averaging seven points and 5.5 rebounds this year. Newcomers Dashon Jones and Brian Towner, both junior college transfers, are leading this year's squad averaging 12.3 and 11.5 points per game. Towner, a 6-3 guard, is tied for the team lead with four three pointers and is averaging 5.5 boards per contest. Mike Lough, a 6-2 sophomore guard, has also made five three pointers this season.
Last Time Out... York lost their fourth consecutive game last Friday night, falling to Dordt, 82-57. The Panthers were hurt on the boards as they were out-rebounded, 54-25, and gave up 28 offensive rebounds in the loss. York was led in scoring by Brian Towner with 17 points and six boards while Dashon Jones added 11 points and four rebounds.
Northwestern swept a pair of games this past weekend as they hosted the Pizza Ranch Classic. The Red Raiders defeated St. Ambrose Friday night, 101-90, and then scored 51 second half points to get by Avila University on Saturday, 99-79. Curt Schilling scored 55 points over the weekend, including a career high 34 points on Friday night. The senior shot 16/27 from the floor and made 7 of 12 three pointers. Chad Schuiteman added 43 points and 25 rebounds in the two games and Mark DeYounge added 29 in the two wins. Both Schilling and Schuiteman earned all-tournament team honors.
Red Raider Notes... Coach Korver, in his eighth year at NWC, needs just one more win to tie former Red Raider Coach and current BCU coach Todd Barry for the top spot in career wins with 197. Korver is 196-43 in his tenure for a school best .820 winning percentage. Senior Chad Schuiteman needs 11 more points to surpass Brandon Jacobson for fifth all-time in scoring with 1,867. The two-time All-American is also third all-time in rebounds and is eighth in career assists. Curt Schilling surpassed Cam Olson and stands 14th all-time in career points. He also ranks seventh all-time in three point baskets with 176.
Next up... The Red Raiders will have a week off before they begin conference play with a game at Dordt College on Nov. 20. They will then host the Northwestern College Classic on Nov. 23-24.
