The Red Raiders remain perfect on the season with a 101-90 victory over St. Ambrose in the 2007 Pizza Ranch Classic. Northwestern, ranked second in the NAIA, improves to 3-0 while the Fighting Bees fall to 0-1. NWC led in the early going by as much as six, 17-11, before a 25-6 run by St. Ambrose gave the Fighting Bees a 36-23 lead with seven minutes left in the first half. The Red Raiders stormed back, however, behind the shooting of Curt Schilling. The senior guard scored 11 points, including a trio of three point baskets, over a span of four minutes to tie the game at 38. Northwestern continued their run over the final minutes and led by five going into halftime. Coach Korver's squad stormed out in the second half and extended the lead to 15, 70-55, with 12:25 left to go in the contest. Chad Schuiteman scored six points to spark the NWC run. The Fighting Bees came back, however, and outscored the hosts 23-8 to tie the game up at 78 with seven minutes left. The Red Raiders withstood the comeback bid, scoring the next five points en route to their third win of the season. Schilling led all scorers with a career-high 34 points, including 26 in the first half. He made 10/15 field goals, went 6/7 from beyond the arc and was 8/10 from the free throw line. Chad Schuiteman recorded his second double-double of the season with 22 points, 17 rebounds. He also added eight assists and two steals. Mark DeYounge added 12 points, four rebound and three assists and Kale Wiertzema was also in double figures with 12 points. Northwestern will host the second day of the Pizza Ranch Classic tomorrow in the Bultman Center. Concordia will play St. Ambrose at 3:00 pm followed by the Red Raiders against Avila University at 5:00 pm. Concordia defeated Avila in the first game today, 79-64.
