Daniel Van Kalsbeek scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down nine boards in leading Northwestern to an impressive 81-59 win over Mount Marty in GPAC men's basketball Wednesday night. The Red Raiders improved to 7-6 in the GPAC, 12-11 overall while Mount Marty slipped to 3-10 in conference play, 5-19 overall.
Down 7-3 early, the Raiders went on a 15-0 run, sparked by six points from Ben Miller and five from Ryan Stock, to take an 18-7 lead. Northwestern continued to roll and led by as much as 15 (32-17) until the Lancers outscored NWC 8-4 to close the half and put the halftime score at 36-25.
Northwestern pulled away from the Lancers with a 21-4 run to start the second half (57-29) and went on to record the 81-59 win.
Van Kalsbeek made 10-of-14 field goal attempts and scored 20 or more points for the 10th time this season. Walker Seim scored all of his 12 points in the second half and Ben Miller added 10 for the Raiders. Stuart Goslinga scored eight and pulled down a career-high seven rebounds off the bench. Northwestern shot 54% from the field and outrebounded the Lancers, 41-34.
Northwestern heads to Blair, Neb. to play Dana on Saturday, Feb. 6.
