Alex Huisken (Chandler, Minn.), Ryan Stock (Sheffield, Iowa) and Tim Vermeer (Sioux Center, Iowa) have signed letters of intent to play basketball at Northwestern College next year.
Huisken is a 6’5”, 210-pound forward who lettered three years while playing for Southwest Christian High School. He averaged 22.9 points, nine rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.3 blocks as he helped lead his team to a 19-6 record and a berth in the second sub-sectional round of the Minnesota state playoffs. Huisken earned first team all-conference honors for the second straight year and earned all-area honors as a junior. He plans to major in business at Northwestern and is the son of Kurt and Dianne.
“Alex is a skilled basketball player,” commented Head Coach Kris Korver. “He knows how to compete and is a gifted scorer. Alex has been groomed in a tradition-rich high school program and we are very excited to have him in our program. It will be exciting to see him grow and mature over the next four years.”
Stock is a four-year letter winner who played for SC-MT High School. The 6’4”, 180 pound guard averaged 18 points, 8.7 rebounds and three assists per game as a senior. Stock helped lead his team to an impressive 23-1 record and a berth in the Class 1A State Basketball Tournament. He earned first team all-state honors and was also named third team all-state as a junior and sophomore. In addition, Stock earned first team all-conference honors three straight years. He is the son of Roger and Carol.
“Ryan is a tough, hard working young man,” commented Korver. “He loves to compete and is a proven winner. Ryan does many things well and he makes the players around him better. We are looking forward to having Ryan as part of the Northwestern basketball family.”
Vermeer is a 6’0” guard who lettered three seasons for Sioux Center High School. The son of Wade and Barb, Vermeer averaged 10 points, four rebounds and two assists per game as a senior. He earned third team all-conference honors and helped lead his team to a 12-11 record. An honor roll student who will also be a member of the Red Raider football team, Vermeer plans to major in education at Northwestern.
“Tim is a tremendous young man with incredible character,” commented Korver. “He is a hard worker and excellent role model from an outstanding high school program. We look forward to having Tim as part of the Red Raider basketball program.”
