Chad Schuiteman and Curt Schilling headline a list of five Red Raiders who earned GPAC Men's Basketball All-Conference honors. Schuiteman, a 6-6 senior from Sioux Center, averages 15 points and is second in the NAIA with 11.4 rebounds per game. He also leads the GPAC with 58 steals and is
second in assists. Schuiteman, a two-time NAIA All-American and three-time first team all-GPAC player, is one of five NWC players to score over 2,000 points in their career. Schilling, a 6-4 senior guard from Ellsworth, Minn., leads the GPAC in scoring averaging 20ppg. He also leads the league in three pointers (84), free throw percentage (90%) and is
third in the GPAC shooting 48% from beyond the arc. Like his teammate Schuiteman, Schilling is also one of five NWC players to score over 2,000 points in their career and earns first team honors for the second straight season.
Kale Wiertzema earned second team all-GPAC honors after averaging 13.2ppg this season. The junior guard from Hills, Minn. ranks fifth in the GPAC with 110 assists and is second in three point percentage (47%). Wiertzema also averages 3.1 rebounds per game and shoots 52% from the field. Mark DeYounge and Andrew Stimson earned honorable mention all-GPAC honors. DeYounge, a 6-5 senior from Mountain Lake, Minn., averages 9.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. He is eighth in the GPAC shooting 55% from the field and became the 37th player in the program's history to score over 1,000 points in their career. DeYounge reached the milestone in his team's 77-69 win over Briar Cliff in the GPAC Championship. Stimson,
a 6-1 junior guard from Clarinda, Iowa, averages 8.6 points per game. He ranks second on the team with 44 three pointers and is shooting 41% from beyond the arc. Stimson has also dished out 80 assists and is pulling down 2.5 rebounds per game.
The Red Raiders are 27-4 overall and earned their 10th straight berth to the NAIA National Tournament that will begin March 12 in Branson, Mo. Northwestern is seeded fifth in the 32-team field and will play Minot State, the DAC Tournament Champion, on Thursday, March 13 at noon.
