Winning is important at Northwestern, but basketball is about more than victories and defeats.  Says Head Coach Kris Korver, “Character formation is the name of the game.  We want young men to display character in everyday life and on the court.  We view basketball as a tool for life transformation.”

In seven years at the helm of the Raider men’s basketball program, Kris Korver’s teams have compiled a remarkable 222-48 record. Coach Korver has led NWC to nine straight national tournament berths where they finished as national champions both in 2001 and 2003. They finished in the Final Four in 2002, 2007, and 2008 and in finished in the Elite Eight in 2005. Last season’s squad was upended in the Final Four, 70-67, by Bellevue University.  Korver has been named the GPAC Coach of the Year three times and has once garnered National Coach of the Year honors.

Prior to his coaching duties at Northwestern, Korver was a teacher and coach in California, leading his team to the playoffs three out of four years. An alum of Northwestern (’92) and a former Raider basketball player, Korver ranks second with a 91.4 individual free throw percentage at 91.4% and 11th on the list for three-point field goal percentage in a season at 46.1%.

Korver and his wife, Ann, have three children, Christian, Elizabeth and Luke. Aside from his basketball duties, Korver is an instructor in the kinesiology department.
