The Coaches... Brad Pole is in his fifth season with the DWU Tigers and holds an 18-30 record into this weekend's game. Coach Pole was named the GPAC Coach-of-the-Year in 2008 after leading the Tigers to a 7-3 record and ended the season ranked 23rd, its best finish since 1992. Kyle Achterhoff is in his first season as head coach of the Red Raider football program after spending the last 11 years as either the offensive (2001-08) or defensive (1998-2000) coordinator. He is just the third NWC head coach since 1967, following Larry “Bub” Korver and Orv Otten.
All-Time Series... This will be the 10th meeting between the two GPAC rivals, all since the 2000 season. Northwestern holds an 8-1 lead in the all-time series but lost last year's meeting to the Tigers, 17-6, in Orange City.
Last Time Out...Both DWU and the Raiders are coming off losses to top-ranked University of Sioux Falls last time out. The Tigers were defeated by the Cougars 59-7 in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Oct. 24. DWU fell behind 56-0 at the half and scored their only touchdown with four minutes left to go on a two-yard run by John Endres. The Tigers' defense gave up over 600 yards of total offense, including 468 yards on the ground to the Cougars. A three-yard scamper by Taylor Malm cut the USF lead to 14-7 early in the second quarter but the Cougars scored 14 points to close out the half and led 28-7 at intermission. The Cougars then opened the second half with an 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Adam Lopez and scored two more touchdowns in the quarter to put the score at 49-7. Northwestern scored its final touchdown midway through the fourth quarter on a one-yard plunge by Brandon Smith.

Two more losses ensued (Hastings and Midland Lutheran) but then knocked off Doane, 42-32. Since that win, DWU lost to Briar Cliff (33-7) and USF (59-7) and had its bye week last weekend.
