Jim Svoboda, a 1983 graduate of Northwestern College, was recently appointed as the head football coach at the University of Central Missouri. Svoboda player under long-time coach and NAIA Hall-of-Famer, Larry "Bub" Korver during the 1980-82 seasons. A standout running back, Svoboda ranks fifth all-time in NWC history in yards per carry (5.6) and gained 1,196 rushing yards during his career. He also ranks 11th in rushing yards in a season when he gained 900 yards during the 1982 season in which the Raider finished with a 12-1 record, losing in the national semifinals to William Jewell (Mo.). The next season, Svoboda was the running backs coach for the Raiders 1983 undefeated and championship season.
