States Maasdam, "I enjoy coaching at Northwestern because the quality of people, both coaches and players, is the finest anywhere." A 1991 Northwestern graduate, Maasdam returned to the Raider program in 2004 as the running backs coach and took charge of the quarterbacks in 2005. “I enjoy coaching at Northwestern because the quality of people, both coaches and players, is the finest you can find anywhere,” said Maasdam. He hopes to instill in his athletes the desire to play as hard as possible every play. During his years as a Red Raider, Maasdam, a quarterback, threw for 7,016 yards, placing him second in career passing, and 62 career touchdowns, third best all-time. He is also second in most passing yards (3,091) and in touchdown passes (31) in a single season. Maasdam works for the city of Orange City. He and his wife, Becky, have three children, Josie, Levi and Dylan.
