Craig Follette (Grinnell, Iowa), Joel Whitley (Beaverton, Ore.) and Brady Wells (Council Bluffs, Iowa) have signed letters of intent to continue their football careers next year at Northwestern College. Follette will also play baseball for the Red Raiders.
Follette is a 6’1”, 200-pound linebacker and tight end who played two years for the Grinnell High School football team. Follette earned first team all-district honors after leading the team and district with 120 tackles as a senior. He helped lead his team to a 6-4 record and a berth in the first round of the state playoffs. Follette was named team most valuable player and was a member of the academic all-state team. The son of Todd and Brockie, Follette plans to major in pre-medicine at Northwestern.
“We are excited about the addition of Craig to the Red Raider football family,” commented head coach Kyle Achterhoff. “He will add depth to our linebacker group.”
A three-year letter winner and outfielder for the Grinnell High School baseball team, Follette batted .294 with two home runs and three triples as a junior. He helped lead his team to a postseason berth in 2008.
“I’m very excited to have Craig make the decision to continue his baseball career at Northwestern,” commented head coach Brian Wede. “He is a good athlete and will provide depth to our outfield.”
Whitley is a 6’0”, 170-pound quarterback who lettered two years for Aloha High School. He threw for 1,950 yards and 21 touchdowns during his junior and senior seasons. Whitley was named team captain as a senior. A member of the National Honor Society and co-student body president, Whitley plans to major in business management at Northwestern. He is the son of Ken.
“Joel is a nice addition to our depth at the quarterback position,” commented Achterhoff. “He is very athletic and is familiar with the offense we run here at Northwestern.”
The son of Tracy and Gerri, Wells is a 6’3”, 200-pound wide receiver and linebacker who played three years for Lewis Central High School. Wells earned second team all-conference honors after recording 31 tackles, three interceptions, including one for a touchdown. He earned first team all-city honors and helped lead his team to a 9-2 record. As a receiver, Wells caught seven passes for 143 yards and one touchdown. He plans to major in business management at Northwestern.
“We are very excited to have Brady be part of the Red Raider football family,” commented Achterhoff. “He is an outstanding football player and could make an immediate impact on defense and special teams.”
