Ryne Martinez-Metzgar (Albuquerque, N.M.) has signed a letter of intent to continue his football career at Northwestern College this fall.
A 5’9”, 187-pound linebacker, Martinez-Metzgar earned four letters while playing for Rio Grande High School. He started four consecutive seasons and garnered 341 tackles, 12 sacks, eight blocked kicks and seven interceptions in his career. Martinez-Metzgar earned all-metro, all-district and first team all-state honors his senior year as he helped lead his team to a 7-5 record and a berth in the class 5A state quarterfinals. A member of the honor roll, Martinez-Metzgar plans to also join the Red Raider baseball team next year. The son of Selena and Leonard Martinez-Metzgar and Wayne and Evelyn Griego, he plans to major in kinesiology and psychology at Northwestern.
“Ryne is an outstanding football player,” commented Head Coach Orv Otten. “He has very good speed and a great ability to find the football. We look forward to having Ryne join our linebacking corp in the fall.”
