Northwestern College and Athletic Director Earl Woudstra have announced that Kirbee Van De Berg will take over as the head coach of the Red Raider dance program.
Van De Berg most recently served as the head dance team coach at Orange City’s Unity Christian High School, a position held since spring of 2016. She led the Knights to first, second and third place finishes at the 2017 ISDTA state competition. Van De Berg’s squad was also selected to perform at the girls’ state basketball tournament.
“I am thrilled to continue my coaching career at Northwestern,” said Van De Berg. “I look forward to sharing my passion for dance with both the team and the campus community.”
Van De Berg is currently an instructor and choreographer at Robin’s School of Dance and Fitness in Sioux Center, where she has been on staff since 2006. Van De Berg teaches classes in all styles and for all age levels and also choreographs numerous routines for the studio’s competition team each year. She has also choreographed theater productions and swing shows for several area schools and taught classes at Attitudes in Dance in Riverside, Iowa.
As a dancer, Van De Berg has received several honors and accolades for her work, including DanceAmerica Young Choreographer Award five years (2009-13), L.A. Photo Shoot Award and various others from regional competitions. Van De Berg was a national champion soloist and runner-up for the Dancer of the Year title, as well as a member of the 2011 and 2012 state champion dance teams at Unity Christian.
Van De Berg has had extensive training in all styles of dance, including jazz, tap, ballet/pointe, contemporary, hip-hop and musical theater. She is also a licensed instructor in Zumba Fitness.
