The Event... After a long layoff, the Northwestern College cross country teams will compete this weekend at the Dakota State Invitational in Madison, S.D. The women’s race begins at 10:30 with the men to start at about 11:15.

Teams Participating... Along with the Red Raiders, teams from Dordt, Dakota Wesleyan, Midland Lutheran, Briar Cliff, Mount Marty, Sioux Falls, Wayne State, South Dakota Tech, Iowa Lakes, Martin Luther, Dakota State and South Dakota State will enter teams.

Last Year... This marks the first time Northwestern has entered their teams in the DSU Invite. In past years, NWC has entered in the SDSU Classic which takes place earlier in September.

Rankings...The Northwestern College women's team began the season ranked in the top 25 (T14th) but have since dropped out of the top 25. They are still receiving votes. Three GPAC teams, Concordia (15), Dordt (22) and Morningside (25) were in this week's poll.

Last Time Out... The Red Raiders have competed just once this season, back on August 29 in the Dordt College Early Meet. The women's team took the team championship with just 26 points, 10 points ahead of Dordt College with 36. Sophomore Charity Miles led Northwestern with a second place finish with an impressive time of 15:07. Five other Red Raider runners placed in the top 10, led by Stephanie Powell (4-16:06), Jenna Sorenson (5-16:07), Ingrid Carlson (7-16:17),Teresa Scholten (8-16:17) and Sara Hess (9-16:20). Three other NWC runners finished in the top 20: Akacia Wentworth (17), Angela Wiggins (19) and Rebecca Wiggins (20).

The Red Raider men placed second for the team championship with 36 points and had six runners finish in the top 20. Individually, Jack Peterson was the top NWC finisher as he placed second in the four miler with a time of 22:19. Tyler Peekenschneider placed fifth with a time of 22:34 while Andy Norris (8-22:47) and Kyle Gerhard (9-22:48) also placed in the top 10. Lee Stover and Andrew Johnson placed 12th and 18th, respectively, with times of 22:57 and 23:41. Eric Posthuma, making his Red Raider debut, finished 21st with a time of 24:16.

Next up... Both teams will next compete at the Briar Cliff Invitational at McCook Lake, S.D on Oct. 11.
