Charity Miles finished 55th out of 320 runners at the NAIA women's cross country national championships on Saturday, Nov. 21. The 2009 event took place at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash.
The junior from Thedford, Neb. completed the 5,000m course in 19:22, less then 30 seconds in back of the 30th place runner. The top 30 runners earned NAIA All-American honors. Miles ran at a 6:14 per mile pace and was the fourth GPAC runner to cross the finish line (Kara Nelson-Mor-30th, Michelle Steiger-Dor-48th & Jena Schwalenberg-Con-49th).
Justyna Mudy (Shorter College) won the women's race with a 5K time of 17:30, 21 seconds ahead of second-place runner Jacky Kipwambok (Azusa Pacific). California State-San Marcos won its first ever NAIA women’s cross country national championship edging second-place Biola (Calif.), 137 to 140 points.
