The Meet... The Raiders will run in a meet hosted by Briar Cliff held at McCook Lake, S.D. on Saturday, Oct. 10. The women's 5K race will start at 10:00 am, followed by the men's 8K race around 10:45 am.
Participants... The Raiders will joined by teams from Dordt, Nebraska-Omaha, Dakota State, College of St. Mary, Morningside, Iowa Lakes, Dakota Wesleyan, Doane, Sioux Falls, Briar Cliff, Mount Marty, Presentation.
Last Year...The women's team finished in fourth place out of 10 teams while the men's team placed sixth out of 12 teams. The women's team totaled 78 points , seven points in back of 13th-ranked Concordia (Neb.) with 71 points. Sara Hess placed fourth overall out of 109 runners with a season-best time of 19:02 on the 5K course. Ingrid Carlson placed 11th with a season-best time of 19:18. Stephanie Powell (19:36) and Jenna Sorensen (19:54) also finished the 5K race in season best times.
The men's team placed sixth out of 12 teams with 130 points. Concordia won the men's team championship with 68 points and was followed by Dordt (72), Morningside (104), Dakota State (106) and Dana (109). Danny Owens was the top Red Raider finisher crossing the line in 16th place out of 127 runners with a season-best time of 27:31. Jack Peterson finished just seven seconds behind Owens in 18th place with a time of 27:38. Kyle Gerhard (28:02), Tyler Peekenschneider (28:10) and Andy Norris (28:18) were the other placers for NWC in 36th, 39th and 43rd place, respectively.
Last Time Out... Three Northwestern runners finished in the top 10 in leading the women's team to a second place finish at the Buena Vista Invitational. The men's team also
finished second as they placed five runners in the top 15. The event was run at the Lake Creek Golf Course in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Ingrid Carlson led the women's team with a third place finish in the 6K race with a time of 24:27. It marked the second time in three meets that the senior placed within the top 10. Teresa Scholten tied her career-best with a fifth place finish, crossing the line in 24:51, followed by Angela Wiggins in ninth place in a time of 25:03, her best ever finish as a Red Raider. Sara Hess (25:05) and Leslie Stover (25:09) crossed the line in 10th and 11th place, respectively. Northwestern totaled 35 points, six point in back of team-champion Dordt (29).
The men's team totaled 57 points and finished second behind team-champion Dordt. Lee Stover recorded a career-best time of
27:41 in the 8K race and finished seventh overall, also a career-best. Sean Guthmiller followed close behind with a time of 27:51 (10th) along with Kyle Gerhard (11th) with a time of 27:53. Jack Peterson (14th) and Jesse Baldwin (15th) crossed the finish line in 28:12 and 28:13, to round out the scoring.
After Today…Northwestern will have two weeks to prepare for their next outing on October 24 when they run at a meet hosted by Mount Marty in Yankton, South Dakota. That race is the final tune-up before the GPAC Championships on November 7 in Fremont, Neb.
