Olivia Johnson and Charity Miles earned All-American honors as the freshmen finished in third and fifth place at the 2007 NAIA Cross Country Women's Championship. The 2007 event was run at the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis.
The Northwestern College women's team finished in 10th place out of 29 teams with a team score of 334, their best ever finish at the national meet. Another region III team, Black Hills State, placed just ahead in eighth place with a score of 255. Simon Fraser (British Columbia) won the team championship for the fifth consecutive year and 10th overall with a score of 99. Cedarville (Ohio) was the national runner-up for the second straight year with 145 points.
Individually, Johnson, a freshman from Milford, Iowa, finished in third place overall, completing the 5K course in 17:46. Miles, from Thedford, Neb., placed fifth overall with a time of 17:49. Two runners from Azusa Pacific, Jaime Canterbury (17:10) and Jacky Kipwambok (17:14) finished first and second respectively. Both Johnson and Miles earned All-American status, the first All-Americans for women's cross country since Kristin Erickson in 2001.
Sara Hess, from Washington, Iowa, placed 96th overall with a time of 19:09. Stephanie Powell (Columbus, Neb.) placed 138th overall with a time of 19:32 and Breann Rozeboom (Lester, Iowa)placed 211th with a time of 20:14. Lori Wolf (228) and Akacia Wentworth (233) round out the NWC runners and crossed the line in 20:37 and 20:47. A total of 268 runners ran in the women's race.
In addition, Wolf also received NAIA Champions of Character honors and eight runners received NAIA Scholar Athlete recognition. Junior Ingrid Carlson (Sanborn, Iowa), and seniors Laura Jacobson (Galva, Iowa), Sarah Korver (Orange City, Iowa) and Lori Wolf (Orange City, Iowa) earned the honor for the women's team. On the men's side, seniors Jon Woehl (Ankeny, Iowa) and Anthony Ebert (Lynnville, Iowa) and juniors Jack Peterson (Walcott, Iowa) and Jon Kuik (Fargo, N.D.) earned the honor. Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify.
