Event Time... The Red Raiders will compete at the GPAC Championships, hosted by Doane and to be run in Crete, Neb., Saturday morning, Oct. 27. The women's 5K race will begin at 10:30 am, followed by the men's 8K race at 11:15 am. The race will be webcasted by the Tiger Radio Network.
Last Time Out... NWC last competed at the Mount Marty Invitational on Oct. 13 in Yankton, S.D. The women's team placed third out of 12 teams while the men finished eighth out of 15 teams. The women were led by freshmen Charity Miles (2nd) and Olivia Johnson (4th) who completed the 5K course in 18:15 and 18:24, respectively. Sara Hess (23rd), Stephanie Powell (24th) and Lori Wolf (27th) were the other top finishers for NWC. Jon Woehl led the men's team with a time of 27:11 in the 8K race, good for 38th place. Danny Owens (42), Kyle Gerhard (50), Tyler Peekenschnieder (55) and Jack Peterson (57) were the other top finishers.
Last Year's Results... Northwestern finished seventh out of 12 teams in 2006 with a team score of 207. Laura Jacobson was the top Raider finisher with a time of 21:06, good for 36th place. Ingrid Carlson and Sarah Storm placed 46th and 49th respectively. Nebraska Wesleyan ran away with the team title last year, scoring just 23 points. Concordia finished a distant second with 76. Brittany Hubbard from Nebraska Wesleyan returns after winning the individual championship both in 2006 and 2005. Last year, she won the event with a time of 19:02.
The Red Raider men finished seventh out of 11 teams with a score of 190. Anthony Ebert (27) and Dan Walhof (28) were the top runners with times of 27:47 and 27:48. Curtis Bowden placed 48th and Jon Woehl crossed the line in 54th place with a time of 29:11. Nebraska Wesleyan took the team title for the men's race with a total of 37 points, followed by Doane with 53. Luka Thor for Concordia won the race last year with a time of 25:42 but will not be running in this year's event. 2006 runner-up Curtis Dunker (NWU) does return to this year's field.
Next up... Northwestern will join all the Region III teams next week in Sioux Falls, S.D., for the NAIA Region III meet. The races will be held at the Prairie Green Golf Course.
