NWC Cross Country Teams To Compete at Mount Marty Invite

Meet Time... The Red Raiders travel to Yankton, S.D., for the Mount Marty Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13. The women's 5k race is set to begin at 10:00 am, followed by the men's 8K race.

Scouting Report... Unofficially, around 17 teams will be competing this weekend in Yankton. No official entry list is available at this time.

Last Time Out... Northwestern won the team championship in the women's race and earned a sixth place finish in the men's race at the BC Open last weekend. The women's team scored 40 points and placed five runners in the top 16 overall. Freshmen Olivia Johnson (18:24) and Charity Miles (18:29) took first and second in the 5k event, followed by Sara Hess (10th), Stephanie Powell (12th) and Lori Wolf (16th). Johnson earned GPAC Runner-of-the-Week honors for the second time this season. Also, the women's team earned a spot (24th) in the NAIA rating this week, the first time NWC has ever been ranked on the women's side. The men were led by Danny Owens who placed 13th with a time of 27:58. Kyle Gerhard (20th-28:37) and Jon Woehl (24-28:59) were the other top NWC runners.

Last Year... Northwestern placed eighth overall in the women's race, led by Laura Jacobson who finished 26th. Sarah Storm placed 39th overall. The men's team also placed eighth and were led by Dan Walhof (24th) and Anthony Ebert (35th).

Next Time Out... The GPAC Championships will be Oct. 27, hosted by Doane, in Crete, Neb. The regional championships are scheduled for Nov. 3 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
