The Northwestern women's cross country team captured the team and individual championship this weekend at the Briar Cliff Invite. The 5K race was run at the Adams Nature Preserve in McCook Lake, S.D. The Red Raiders finished with 40 points, 10 points better than second place Wayne State (50). Morningside (51) and Dakota State (128) were the other top finishers.
Olivia Johnson, freshman from Milford, Iowa, won the individual title as she crossed the finish line in 18:24. It was her second overall championship this season as she also won the Dordt Invite. Charity Miles, freshman from Thedford, Neb., finished second with a time of 18:29. It was her second top five finish this season. Sara Hess placed 10th with a time of 19:52 while Stephanie Powell (12th) and Lori Wolf (16th) round out the other top runners for NWC.
The team will next compete at the Mount Marty Invitational in Yankton, S.D., on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 10:00 am.
