Cross Country Teams Finish Strong at SDSU Classic

The Red Raider cross country teams competed at the SDSU Classic Saturday morning at the Edgebrook Golf Course in Brookings, S.D. The women's team finished in sixth place out of 12 teams with 136 points and were the top finisher among the NAIA teams. Freshmen Olivia Johnson (17th) and Charity Miles (19th) placed in the top 20 with times of 18:36 and 18:50. Stephanie Powell completed the 5000 meter course in 19:54, good for 40th place and Sara Hess (48th-20:09) and Lori Wolf (54th-20:23) rounded out the top five runners for NWC.

The men's team finished in seventh place out of 11 teams with a team score of 199. The only NAIA school to finish ahead to the Red Raiders was Dickinson State in fifth place with 130 points. Senior Jon Woehl led a group of five NWC runners who finished within one minute of each other. Woehl placed 32nd overall with a time of 27:10, followed closely behind by Tyler Peekenschneider (44th-27:38) and Danny Owen (46th-27:40). Jack Peterson and Kyle Gerhard placed 51st and 53rd, respectively.

Northwestern will have a few weeks off before they compete in the Briar Cliff Invitational at McCook Lake on Saturday, Oct. 6.
