Senior Ingrid Carlson finished in the top 15 for the second consecutive meet as the women's cross country team finished fifth at the USF Invitational run at the Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls, S.D. The men's team also finished in fifth place overall in their race.
Carlson ran the 5K course in 19:49 and placed 14th overall out of 97 runners. She was followed by Leslie Stover and Teresa Scholten who placed 27th and 28th, respectively. Stover recorded a time of 20:11 while Scholten finished a second behinid in 20:12. Three other Raiders, Corrine Muyskens (30th), Breann Rozeboom (31st) and Sara Hess (34th) finished within 11 seconds of Scholten as the top five runners for NWC finished within 30 seconds of each other. Concordia captured the team championship with 29 points, followed by Northern State.
Like the women's team, the NWC men's team placed fifth and had their six top runners finish within 30 seconds of each other. Northwestern totaled 137 points and finished behind Concordia (18), Doane (52), Northern State (88) and Dordt (106). Lee Stover was the top Raider finisher, placing 25th out of 99 runners with a time of 27:48. Freshmen Sean Guthmiller (26th) and Jesse Baldwin (29th) crossed the line in 27:49 and 27:57. Jack Peterson placed 32nd with a time of 28:04 and Andy Norris (44th) and Tyler Drenkow (46th) finished with times of 28:17 and 28:23.
Northwestern will next compete in two weeks at the Buena Vista Invite (Sept. 26).
