Red Raiders To Compete At Roy Griak Invite

The Event...Northwestern College will run in the Roy Griak Invite hosted by the University of Minnesota at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in St. Paul, Minn. The women's 6K race will run at 9:50 and the men's 8K race will begin at 11:30. A full schedule of events plus more information can be found at the following link: Roy Griak Invite!

About the Roy Griak Invite...One of the largest meets in the country, the Griak includes six collegiate races and four high school races and begins with the Suzy Wilson Women's Maroon III (Division III) Competition at 9 a.m.

Last Time...Northwestern College won the men's team title at the Herb Blakely Invite held Sept. 13 in Madison, S.D.

Northwestern totaled 20 points and finished 22 points ahead of second place Iowa Western Community College. Mount Marty was a distant third with 93 points. 

The Red Raiders had six runners finish in the top 10 and had seven place in the top 12. Skyler Giddings led the Red Raiders with a third place finish, posting an 8K time of 26:58. Junior Caleb VanderBaan recorded his best-ever finish, placing fourth out of 60 runners in a time of 27:01. Will Norris (5th-27:14), Logan Hovland (6th-27:23) and Hans Epp (7th-27:25) followed close behind. Peter Smith (9th-27:42) and Tim Rose (12th-28:04) round out the Red Raiders' counting scores. 

The women's team finished second with 33 points, just three in back of team champion Mount Marty with 30. Iowa Western placed third with 67 points, followed by Iowa Lakes Community College and Briar Cliff. 

Amber Sandbulte was the top NWC runner, finishing second with a 5K time of 20:02. Katie Bosch finished right behind in third place in a time of 20:05, followed by Kelley Thurman with a time of 20:48, good for sixth place overall. Three seniors were next; Heather Heilman (10th-21:41), Jill Cunard (12th-21:54) and Talitha Witt (15th-22:09) and then freshman Sam Sinclair placed 19th with a time of 22:30.

NAIA Poll...Northwestern received votes in this week's NAIA men's cross country coaches' poll released on Sept. 24. It is the second consecutive week that the Red Raiders made the poll and they join three other GPAC teams in the poll: Morningside (14), Concordia (20) and Dordt (RV).
