The Event...The Northwestern College cross country teams travel to Yankton, S.D. to compete in the Mount Marty Invite on Saturday, Oct. 26. This is the final meet of the regular season and the final tune-up before the conference meet on Nov. 9. The women's 5K race is scheduled to begin at 10:30am and will be followed by the men's 8K race.
Teams Competing... This is one of the largest meets of the year as runners from at least 14 teams will compete. Seven GPAC teams are scheduled to run, including Northwestern, Dakota Wesleyan, Dordt, Briar Cliff, Concordia, Morningside and Mount Marty. Other teams competing are the University of South Dakota, Jamestown and Dakota State among others.
Northwestern News and Notes...The women's team has finished among the top four teams in its last three meets, recording a second, third and fourth place finish. Kelley Thurman has been one of the Red Raiders top runners every meet this year, placing among the top 20 in her last three meets. Dawn Gildersleeve also has been among one of the team's top runners, finishing within the top 20 three times. Amber Sandbulte has finished in the top 20 three times, followed by Jackie Niewenhuis and Janet Pitsenberger.
Northwestern's mens team earned votes in the last NAIA coaches' poll and has finished among the top three teams three times. They won two meets this year (Dean White and Herb Blakely) and placed third at the BCU Open two weeks ago. The trio of Logan Hovland, Skyler Giddings and Will Norris have led the men's team in every race, finishing among the top 10 in their last three races. Kyle Anderson, Zach Wittenberg and Caleb VanderBaan have also been among the top runners for Coach Bahrke's squad.
Up Next...Northwestern will next compete at the GPAC Championships on Saturday, Nov. 9 in Seward, Neb.
